Rupert

I don't really worry about money anymore. I know my family will be okay.

My name is Rupert Wastie, and I’ve been with Oakfield Lee Financial Planning for about five years. The lady I have the good fortune to work with is Becky.

When I turned 60, I needed somebody to help me collate all my pension pots into one place and to provide me with the sort of service I needed to ensure I could provide for myself and my family in the future.

One of the tricky things when you’re trying to put your money somewhere is that you don’t want to give it to charlatans or people who haven’t got your best interest at heart. I decided to do a few checks online, and Becky’s name came up. Becky will tell you that I’m a very family-orientated chap. I’ve got my two children, my wife, and me, so, whoever was going to be dealing with my finances had to really understand and know me, and my family, and all our idiosyncrasies whatever it is, the way they are, and so I actually spent a lot of time just talking to Becky, finding common areas and beliefs, and I found so many.

She’s just so approachable, and I think she’s always going to give you the advice that’s good for you rather than what could be in principle good for her, and ultimately, it’s down to you to take it. She always has her client’s best interest at heart.

In the last five years, Becky has helped my family out by not just dealing with pensions, which is what I expected, but also, she managed to do all our wills to make sure that they were as tax-efficient as possible, and the clauses were right. I feel happy and secure, which is very important for me. She’s created an environment where I don’t really worry about money anymore. What we’ve done means I’m going to be okay for the rest of my life, and so will my wife and children; they may want it earlier, but they’ll have to wait.

One of the best things about working with Becky is that I don’t always feel as if I’m just talking to an independent financial adviser. I’m talking to a friend, and a colleague, even. I can put ideas into her head and ask what she thinks, and vice versa, she’s also had some great ideas and put them into my head! That’s one of the best things about Becky.

I would describe Becky using these three phrases or words. Number one, she’s very family-orientated, which is very important for me. Secondly, she’s very understanding of what my family needed, and it’s not only the typical normal stuff, but also the abnormal stuff, but ultimately, it’s what we needed as a family. Lastly, I’ll say, she’s very responsive because she does action and get you what you require, what you need.

The most valuable piece of advice Becky’s given me so far, believe it or not, is advice I have not yet taken, and that’s because I keep failing to retire. Her recommendation, her best advice, is, “Rupert, you have enough to retire, so why are you not retiring?”

I would thoroughly recommend Oakfield Lee and Becky to help anyone out with regard to independent financial advice to help with your pensions, and other parts of life.
